257. Mary Ann HELM. Born on 4 Jul 1830. Mary Ann died on 12 Feb 1897; she was 66. Buried in Canton Creek Church, Franklin County, Virginia.

On 30 Nov 1852 when Mary Ann was 22, she married Raleigh Walter DYER (511) , son of Joseph DYER (16 Nov 1802-9 Nov 1841) & Rachel PRILLAMAN (165) (19 Jul 1808-15 Mar 1885), in Franklin County, Virginia. George W. Kelly, minister. Born on 16 Oct 1827 in Franklin County, Virginia. Raleigh Walter died in Franklin County, Virginia on 28 Jan 1902; he was 74. Occupation: Teacher.

Noted in Helms book as an Irishman and a school teacher. When he inquired about marrying Fleming Helms daughter, Fleming wanted to know his occupation. When told he was a school teacher, Fleming said that Mary would starve to death on such pay.2

left of the old home place. Raleigh's cabin originally stood across the branch

Listed in the 1860 census of Floyd County as Jacob P. Helm, farmer, age 25, with wife Elizabeth J., age 21, and a one year old son named Charles William. Their mother-in-law Mary Sandifer is listed as living in the household with them.

On 5 Feb 1856 when Jacob Prillaman was 22, he married Elizabeth SANDIFUR, daughter of Matthew SANDIFUR (1770-bef Sep 1844) & Mary GOODSEN, in Floyd County, Virginia. Born in 1835 in Floyd County, Virginia.

Appointed as a school trustee for the Brown Hill District of Franklin County, Virginia on 23 November 1870 by the State Board of Education.
